New electron Tagger at 8 m. from IP

A new electromagnetic calorimeter is designed to be installed close to the e-beam line at a position 8 m from IP in the electron beam direction. Together with Etagg7 calorimeter which was installed at 6.8m from IP these detectors will allow to extend the photoproduction data with increased photon-proton centre-of-mass energy range up to W = 280-300 GeV. From the experience accrued during Etagg7 operation period(1996-1997 HERA running) it is proved that a spaghetti type calorimeter used for such small size detectors provides sufficient both energy and spatial resolution for reliable detection of 0.5-5 GeV electrons. The calorimeter segmentation of the new Etagg8 was made to have an optimal signal from the electromagnetic shower to correct energy and coordinate reconstruction. Three vertical segments (3x6.7mm width) overlap the beampipe exit window and will provide the horizontal coordinate of the electron hit point. Two rear side median plane separated segments should have some signal proportionality related to the weight-average vertical coordinate of the electromagnetic shower.

The designs of the Etagg8 and Etagg7 calorimeters are shown in:

The shell of the Etagg8 is designed taking into account very restricted space available within H1 Inner VETO detector. To incorporate the Etagg8 in the Inner VETO it is required to move the central Inner VETO lead plate on 3sm along the beampipe direction.
