To increase the acceptance for the tagged photoproduction events towards the low y range (0.04<y<0.025) new electron calorimeters were proposed for installation at z=-38m and z=-188m [H1-09/94-383]. In order to check this proposal and to investigate the possibility to operate very close to the electron beam (~2-3 cm from the beam axis) a small ET-prototype was prepared and installed for 1995 running period. The electron beam pipe was slightly modified around z=-44 m, to allow the installation of small detector, which therefore got a name ET44. The position of ET44 in HERA tunnel is sketched below. The calorimeter is built out of 6 KRS crystals of same type and size as those used in the old Electron Tagger. The crystals with phototubes are housed into the antimagnetic iron box with thin (~2 mm) wall which is close to the beampipe. The detector is mounted on a fixed support and is not remotely movable.
